Info about Ancient Church of Marzamemi
Thank you for purchasing the Souvenir of the Ancient Church of Marzamemi, created by Andrea Gozzo in 2024.
The eighteenth-century church has a single nave and is dedicated to San Francesco di Paola, patron saint of the seaside village of Marzamemi.
It was built by the Prince of Villadorata, as was the entire Tonnara complex, to which the Church is connected with a characteristic stone arch.
The style of the Church which overlooks Piazza Regina Margherita is typically Baroque, with a round window and 2 bell arches.
Since the Second World War, which significantly damaged the structure, the Ancient Church of Marzamemi was no longer open to religious worship.
After 80 years and important restoration work, the Ancient Church of Marzamemi today returns to shine as a Maritime Museum, housing important finds to visit.
