Noto Basilica Cathedral, dedicated to San Nicolò of Mira, is one of the most important monuments of the Sicilian city. Its construction began in 1694, under the direction of the architect Rosario Gagliardi, and was completed in 1703.

However, over the centuries, it underwent several restorations and modifications, especially after the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed much of eastern Sicily, including the city of Noto.

The Cathedral, in Baroque style, is characterized by its imposing façade and the majesty of the internal decorations. It has a Latin cross plan and a sumptuous interior decorated with polychrome marble, worked and painted stucco. 

The main altar is a sculptural masterpiece created by Gagini in the 18th century. In 1996, the Noto Cathedral suffered serious structural damage. The restoration work was started to preserve this important cultural heritage. 

The consolidation and repair operations required years of effort, but they returned the Basilica to its ancient charm. Today the Cathedral remains one of the main points of interest in Noto, attracting both faithful and tourists for its architectural beauty, its artistic richness, a UNESCO heritage site, and its historical and religious significance in Sicilian culture.
